Jiangsu College of Engineering andTechnology(JCET) is a state-run full-time vocational study collegemanaged on behalf of the Jiangsu Provincial Government. It hasbecome a showcase construction unit of the State Model VocationalCollege Project. Its history can be traced back to the firsttextile school in China as far back as 1912. It was established byMr. Zhang Jian, the famous patriotic industrialist andeducationist. JCET has established a profound cultural accumulationwith nearly one hundred years of training large numbers ofexcellent graduates for the economic, social, construction anddevelopment of Jiangsu province, as well as the whole of China. Located in Nantong, Jiangsu Province,JCET enjoys the convenience of quick and easy transportation withinthe one-hour-economic-zone of Shanghai. JCET has a land area of 720mu (one mu equals to 666.67 square meters), with total floor spaceof 202,400 square meters. The students at JCET can take advantageof emerging technology, modern scientific teaching methods andcontemporary teaching methodologies. The JCET library also is intune with the goal of informatization and digitalization. Besides having established so far 48training workshops, JCET has: A Modern Textile Technology TrainingBase, funded by China’s Central Financial Ministry;A TextileDesigner’s Professional Qualification Training Center funded atstate level;A Home-textile and Costume Engineering TechnologyResearch Center funded at provincial level;A Provincial ModelTraining Base;A Local Municipal Costume Technology InnovationCenter;A Provincial Model Teaching Center forBasic-course-experiments; and A State Vocational Skill AppraisalOffice. JCET is a comprehensive highereducation institute with over 10,000 full-time students andembracing cutting edge engineering science as its main focus. Ithas 7 schools which include Textile and Dying, Electrical Machines,Business, Arts, Fashion, Construction and Aviation. JCET also has 2sub-colleges such as Further Education School and NTVTC-KanganTAFE. Kangan TAFE is a Sino-Australian project between JCET and theAustralian Kangan Institute of TAFE based in Melbourne, Victoria.Of all 52 majors offered at JCET, including; Modern TextileTechnology, Home-Textile Design, Dying Technologies,Electric-Mechanic Integration, E-commerce, ConstructionEngineering, the traditional majors have their established brandfeatures and the newly-launched majors are closely related toemerging social demands. JCET endeavors to maintain a structuredteam with an integration of part-time and full-time teaching staff,who practice good teaching ethics, advanced teaching philosophies,and practical and professional teaching skills. In addition to the210 part-time teachers, JCET has 466 full-time teachers, amongwhom, 33% have got senior professional titles, and over 75% of theprofessional teachers hold ‘Double-qualification Certificates’.Also 78% of the younger teaching staff has achieved at least amaster’s degree qualification. Furthermore, JCET invites part-timeprofessors from the academicians of China’s Engineering Academy,and experts and renowned teachers from other famous universities tolecture at the college. Adhering to the concept oftransparency, JCET has early established a sub-college NTVTC-KBT asa Sino-Australian cooperation project. It has also set up apartnership with Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.JCET regularly invites foreign experts and scholars to givelectures in the college, and also sends teachers abroad for furthertraining and education. As a result of this international exchange,JCET has further demonstrated its management ability andinfluence.
